Ford F-150 Trim Levels and Cab Configurations

The reason there are so many different versions of the Ford F-150 is because Ford wants this truck to adhere to any lifestyle. So, if you want an off-roading machine, a luxurious hauler, or a new-age truck loaded with technology, you merely have to look to the F-150 trims to find the right fit.

The standard trim is the XL, a no-nonsense work truck, followed by the XLT and Lariat. The rest of the trims in order are:

  • King Ranch
  • Platinum
  • Limited

Cab options include the Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew. The Regular Cab and Super Cab come with either 6.5-foot styleside or 8-foot styleside pickup boxes, while the SuperCrew comes with either a 5.5-foot styleside or 6.5-foot styleside.

Engine Options

The performance of your Ford F-150 is going to depend largely on the engine you have under the hood. A 10-speed automatic transmission is mated to each engine, while the drivetrain can be either 4X2 or 4X4. So the biggest decision you have to make is the type of powertrain you want.

For 2021, the F-150 can be equipped with a 3.5L hybrid V6, the first time a hybrid has been offered in the full-size truck segment. This hybrid engine reaches 430 horsepower, 570 lb-ft of torque, and gets an EPA-estimated 25 city/26 highway MPG.

There isn't another Ford motor that can match the horsepower and torque outputs of the hybrid, yet you still have plenty of powerful choices. The 3.3L V6 engine makes 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, while the 2.7L V6 generates 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The remaining engines are:

  • 3.5L V6 making 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.0L V6 making 250 horsepower and 440 lb-t of torque
  • 5.0L V8 making 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque

Maximum Towing and Payload

Any variation of the Ford F-150 is going to deliver strong and steady capability. When you properly configure the 2021 truck, though, you can reach a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. For payload, the highest figure you can reach is an impressive 3,325 pounds!
